The Studio
Erasmus University Rotterdam
30.6 – 9.9.2017

For the renovated library of Erasmus University
Rotterdam, I created an artwork with the help of
students and
staff of the university. Each volunteer
was invited to paint a tile after an example I
presented, which in turn was based on a fragment
from a 1956 Picasso painting called The Studio.
During two weeks we painted around one thousand
tiles of A4 size. Together they constitute an artwork
of 285 x 1500 cm,installed at the entrance of the
library on the ground floor. The above images are
from the accompanying publication focusing
on the
painting and creation process, as a supplement to
the piece. The work can be visited at the library
of the Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
